London Origin - Game 1

After extensive trials and now a four week training programme London Broncos are delighted to announce the first of our three Origin games takes place on Wednesday, 3rd July at Streatham & Croydon Rugby Club.

The programme has seen the very best young players from the London area look to impress our coaches in the hope of one day following the path of so many of the current first-team players.

The concept is very simple. You represent either “North” or “South” depending on where in the country you are from and then go head to head in a three game series.

London Broncos Head of Talent Pathway has the following message ahead of the inaugural game;

“Time flies! The first 4 weeks of Origin are done, and what’s stood out about both North and South is the commitment of not only the players - but the parents too. I really feel like this was something the London and South of England rugby league community needed. This programme feels like a shot in the arm and the reaction of the squads and their families has repeatedly shown this to us.

"We have almost 90 young and aspiring players (some coming from as far as Wales, Brighton and Ipswich) being part of an elite and holistic programme which is educating players in areas like nutrition, sleep hygiene, mindset, video analysis and much more. Besides this the way the club has got behind the programme is phenomenal. Both Mike and Kieran are in regular communication so we align the pathway properly - Mike himself and many 1st team players have been down to help with the programme. In fact, I can tell you now that if Jimmy Meadows doesn’t one day retire and become a full time coach, then the world is missing out - he was fantastic as were the other 1st team lads. Reserves coach Dan Roberts has also been a huge asset behind the scenes.

“I have to also thank the outstanding coaching teams, besides myself, Tony Musgrave and Trev Mclachlan - who were all coaches in the Scholarship and Academy, we’ve attracted back a huge talent in former Head of Academy, Dave Evans, and have former Academy players like George Sanderson in our coaching team.

“The squads have also had sessions with Broncos Head of S&C James Hanley and Head Analyst Sam Bloomer. There is just a really good energy around the whole programme and as a club, we are all looking forward to this first game.

“And I’m now asking everyone: “Origin Game 1- who ya got??”

Spectators are able to come along and watch the games with it being a ticket free event.

Stay tuned for announcements on the upcoming games.

TONY REA IN THE LEGENDS LOUNGE London Broncos are delighted to announce legendary former London Broncos player and coach Tony Rea will be the special guest in the Legends Lounge for the upcoming home game against Batley Bulldogs on April 12th. Tony joined the London Broncos in December 1994, and made his debut on Boxing Day in a freezing cold defeat at Leigh. The club was in transition at the time, with the Brisbane Broncos directors, who owned the club, signing Australian players to try to win promotion from the Second Division. Tony joined the club from North Sydney. He had played 120 first team games for Norths, including captaining them to the Grand Final in 1991.

GAMEWEEK: Featherstone Rovers vs London Broncos Off the back of another win at The Cherry Red Records on Saturday against Hunslet the Broncos move into cup action this weekend. We turn our attentions to the 1895 Cup and a place in the semi-finals is at stake when we head to Featherstone Rovers to take on Paul Cooke's side. The last time we were in the 1895 Cup we reached the semi-final stages of the competition and will be looking to go at least one step further on this occasion. Broncos have already faced Featherstone once this season and it was Mike Eccles side who took the win in a league game at Wimbledon. The last time Broncos played at Featherstone was in the semi-final of the play-offs in 2023 and it was the Broncos who picked up a shock win to progress to the final and ultimately seal promotion back to Super League. LONDON BRONCOS V HUNSLET (by David Ballheimer) London Broncos (16) 26, Hunslet (0) 6 London Broncos produced one of their most dominant defensive performances in recent memory as they beat Hunslet at the Cherry Red Records Stadium on Saturday night. Such was London’s control of the ruck that the Yorkshiremen had only one attack on the London line, and they turned over the ball-carrier before he could ground the ball. At the other end, Hunslet could not cope with the power and strength of London’s ball-carriers. The Broncos made a great start, scoring on their second possession, courtesy of Marcus Stock, who found a way through three tacklers before stretching over the line and grounding the ball. Most of the credit, however, belonged to Huw Worthington, who charged 35 metres downfield returning a kick. Four minutes later, Stock turned provider, turning in a tackle and sending Luke Polselli over. The half-back was able to run behind the posts to make Chris Hellec’s second conversion even easier than his first.

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS: London Broncos 26-6 Hunslet RLFC London Broncos returned to winning ways on Saturday as Mike Eccles side picked up a valuable win over Hunslet at The Cherry Red Records Stadium. The Broncos were forced into making 8 changes from the 18-man squad that lost to Oldham the week before so despite Hunslet's league position, a win was far from a foregone conclusion.
